Six months of bookshop life

We've been in Book Haven now for half a year, and each day is always a pleasure. No two days are the same, and working with books and book lovers is a dream.

Over the last six months we've been busy getting more acquainted with the shop and the multitude of books (and teapots) that we have. The Freedom Shop moved into the front corner, the wonderful team from Zinefest held a series of book craft evenings, and in the midst of the cold wet winter we did some extensive changes towards the back of the shop. We dismantled and relocated shelves and now have a more open space where people can sit and pore through a book at a large table immersed between the cookbooks and art and photography.

Other plans for the new space are to host more events. With the new layout we will have ample space for public talks, chats with authors and poets, and hopefully even film evenings. Some events will be led by the Freedom Shop and others by us, Book Haven. We also plan to see the table utilised for board games.

On Tuesday 1 November we have a talk with academic and author Giacomo Lichtner in the shop, hosted by the Freedom Shop. Then the same week, on Sunday 6 November, we are part of the Verb Wellington Sunday Stroll, and later in the month on Tuesday 22 November we have investigative journalist Nicky Hager in the shop on the subject of 'Being an Investigate Journalist'.

Other events include launching some new zines from the Radical Zine Series, and also the launch of the 2023 Plan B diary.

Keep an eye on our social media or posters in the shop for up-to-date details.
